Welcome to The Swing Cellar, home of Lindy Hop in the heart of Leicester city centre.
Swing Dance is our passion and one we would love to share with you at our weekly Lindy Hop classes.
Swing dance covers the vintage dances from the 1920s to the 1950s and includes Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Shag and Blues, which all developed alongside the swing music of the era.
Focusing on Lindy Hop and Charleston, we'll be teaching all the basics in our beginner classes, plus some more challenging moves in our intermediate classes.
Join our fun and friendly classes and learn some moves for your next tea dance, vintage night or party!
We are a fun, friendly class based in the Cultural Quarter of Leicester City Centre.
We hold classes once a week on a Monday night, and all go to the pub for a drink afterwards!
Our classes are held at:
Studio 79
15 Midland Street
Leicester
LE1 1TG
There is plenty of free on-street car parking available in the surrounding area after 6pm.
Our History:
The Swing Cellar was started in 2011 to share with you all our love of Swing Dance!
We started off as a small group, meeting in the cellar room of The Exchange (where we got the inspiration for our name), and then moved in to the LCB Depot in October 2012. Since then our numbers have steadily grown, leading us to move in to our new home at Studio 79.
This is a great room with a lovely floor and good sound system - we love it!
Our Teachers:
Our regular teachers are Oz and Kate, but we sometimes have guest teachers in to teach us some different styles of swing dance.
Oz has been dancing swing since 2008 and has been teaching since 2011. He helped to set-up the Swing Cellar and likes exploring rhythm and movement (this probably comes from being a drummer!).
Kate has been dancing since she was 6, starting out with ballet and tap, and moving on to swing in 2011 as one of the first Swing Cellar students. She started teaching swing in 2012 and has led other dance groups - teaching workshops and organsing events.
