7.45pm - beginners/improvers class (Lindy hop fundamentals)Learn all the basics with simple fun routines aimed at getting you dancing quickly - with plenty of emphasis on good lead/follow technique and connection as with all our classes! No experience required. Absolute beginners always welcome!
8.45pm - social dancing/practicePractise what you've learnt! Social dancing to recorded music.
9.15pm - follow-up class/Q&ADuring the intermediates class there is usually a revision session for beginners/improvers up on the balcony. This is a chance to go over anything you found tricky, ask questions and consolidate the material you've learnt. Please note that this extra class is subject to teacher availability - if it's not running please feel free to have a go at the main class on the side or just enjoy a drink and wait for the final hour of dancing/practice).
Beginners are encouraged to stay for the entire evening, the bar is open and you are welcome to sit and watch the intermediates class if you're not taking the follow-up.
Intermediates please do come along early and join in with the 8.45pm social dance/practice session.
9.15pm - intermediates Lindy hop classMove your dancing to the next level! Expect lots on technique and style as well as steps. You need to have a reasonably good grasp of all the steps regularly taught in the beginners class to take intermediates. So 6-count, some 8-count basics plus basic knowledge of partnered Charleston steps is assumed. At the beginning of the class we will ask everyone to do a selection of basic steps - if you don't feel confident with these you should take the beginners/improvers follow-up class instead. In conjunction with our regular workshops this class is designed to set and maintain a really good fundamental level for intermediate-level Lindy hop in London.
After the classes we have dancing!
From 10pm-11pm it's freestyle time - try out the moves you've learnt, or sit down, have a drink and watch what's going on (the bar in the dance hall is open all evening). Resident DJ Martin & occasional guests play "the best swing music in town" and are happy to take requests too.
From 10pm-midnight - on occasion we run an after-party at A-Train with live music.
For LATES dates please see Dates.
We rotate partners regularly in the classes so you don't need to bring a partner and you get a chance to dance with everyone. This is the best way to learn and it's a great way to meet people too! Because of the numbers at A-Train it is not practical for couples to stay together - please join in the rotation, you will learn much quicker!
