Overview
Breakdance (traditionally known as Bboying or Breakin’) is a highly dynamic style of dance that originated from the Bronx, New York in the 1970s. This beginners course will cover some of the fundamental steps, as seen by bboys and bgirls from all over theglobe, and how to link them to ‘the breaks’. Breaks are heavy drum sections of music records that are looped together and prolonged to create a mix that first inspired this style of dance. This course will be focussed on developing our musicality, balance, flexibility, upper body strength and coordination through this traditional dance within hip hop culture.

What is the course about?

In this course, you will learn fundamental steps and approaches to movements frequently performed by bboys and bgirls worldwide. You will gain a basic understanding of rhythm and how to perform fundamental movements to drum breaks. You will also learn a few short combinations which can be shown to the groups at the end of the course. You will develop the ability to freestyle, using these combinations of steps in your own way.
